Why do Indian Doctors prefer to work in the UAE?

Updated: May 31, 2023

There are several reasons why Indian doctors prefer to work in the UAE:

Better job opportunities: The UAE offers better job opportunities for doctors, especially in terms of higher salaries and better working conditions. General Practitioners' monthly salaries in the United Arab Emirates, on Average, are AED 15,000 per month. Additional benefits mostly include free housing etc. It is recommended that Indian doctors complete their specialisation in their home country and then move to UAE.

According to information from the Dubai Health Authority, the average monthly salary for a medical specialist in Dubai ranges from AED 25,000 to AED 45,000 (USD 6,800 to USD 12,300). However, doctors working in private hospitals and clinics can earn higher salaries, with some earning upwards of AED 100,000 (USD 27,200) per month.

It's important to note that these figures are just averages. Many factors can impact a doctor's salary, such as their experience level, education, and the demand for their particular specialisation in the market. Additionally, the cost of living in Dubai can also be relatively high, which may impact how far a doctor's salary can go in terms of their overall quality of life. The UAE has an all-inclusive, government-funded healthcare system and a fast-developing private sector that delivers a high standard of care.

Opportunity to apply for the Golden Visa: Since 2021, UAE Govt has permitted all doctors residing in the country to apply for the golden visa. Please note that doctors licenced by the health regulatory authorities and residing in the UAE can apply for the golden residency. The visa will grant doctors and their families ten years of residency in UAE. Long-term visas mean the person has far greater flexibility, can plan ahead, more easily sponsor their family, and has peace of mind about their status in the country.

Modern Facilities: Medical facilities are well-managed and equipped with the latest equipment and software. These medical services are easily accessible for both locals and ex-pats alike. Moreover, both public and private hospitals offer premium healthcare. The well-known hospitals and private institutions include NMC Healthcare, Aims Healthcare, and American Hospital Dubai, amongst others.

Tax-free income: The UAE is known for its tax-free income policy, which means that doctors can earn more money without having to pay a significant portion of it in taxes.

High standard of living: The UAE is a country that offers a high standard of living, with modern infrastructure, high-quality healthcare, and a diverse population.

Professional growth: Working in the UAE can offer Indian doctors the opportunity to gain international exposure and enhance their professional growth by working with a diverse range of patients and colleagues from different countries.

Cultural similarities: The cultural similarities between India and the UAE make it an attractive destination for Indian doctors. Many Indian doctors find it easy to adapt to the UAE's culture and way of life.

Opportunities for the family: The UAE offers opportunities for the family of Indian doctors as well. The country is known for its excellent schools, safe and secure environment, and plenty of recreational activities.

Overall, the UAE is an attractive destination for Indian doctors because of the better job opportunities, tax-free income, high standard of living, professional growth, cultural similarities, and opportunities for their families.
